Australia Post Money Orders now offer more choice. Money Orders can now be purchased for any value up to $5,000. Plus, there’s now a tiered fee structure:

Express Money Orders cost just $20.00, which includes transmission to the nominated paying Australia Post outlet.

Bulk Money Orders

Money orders can be purchased in bulk at a significant discount and can carry a tailored advertising message from your company.

Bulk money orders are a convenient, safe and economical payment system for businesses or organisations that need to provide refunds or 'cash-back' payments or incentives to many clients at the same time.

Bulk money orders can also be ordered through all larger postal Australia Post outlets.

Western Union International Money Orders

Western Union International Money Orders make it easy to send money to the USA and are sold at all larger Australia Post outlets.

They are issued in US dollars only but can also be accepted as foreign currency deposit instruments outside the USA, at the discretion of the recipient’s bank.

Western Union International Money Orders make it easy to make payments of up to $US1000 to payees in the USA. The cost is a fixed fee of just $AUD8.65 (GST-inclusive), irrespective of value.

Western Union international money orders must be paid into a bank account and are subject to clearance just like a cheque.

The payee must have a local bank account in the destination country so this product is generally unsuited to making payments to people who are travelling rather than living overseas.

In the USA, clearance of the funds takes approximately one week.

If a bank in another country chooses to accept these $US items, extended clearance times apply.

NB. Western Union orders cannot be cashed at post offices either in Australia or overseas.

2	Immediate payment may not be available at smaller remote postal outlets for high values or large numbers of Money Orders prior notice or agreed arrangements with the Postal Manager for such payments are advisable
3	Like cheques, Money Orders are subject to a clearance period when paid into a bank account.

How to avoid counterfeit Money Orders

Please Note:
Australia Post reserves the right to refuse to issue a Money Order for any reason, including, but not limited to, the likelihood of insufficient cash being available to pay out an Express Money Order at the office of payment. Money Orders that are out-of-date, cancelled, already paid, stolen, defaced or altered in any way will not be accepted for payment. Australia Post reserves the right to delay payments for a short period while Money Orders are verified. Payees are required to provide satisfactory identification where the Money Order value exceeds $20. Express Money Order one-hour service available during post office hours only.
